Not long ago we talked about a story of the famous Chinese medicine practitioner Zhang Xichun 张锡纯 during the late Qing Dynasty, with his student-patient had 4 nose bleeding in a day. With Ginger as the major herb, he illness of the child was cured.
Today we talk about “Bleeding” and “Spleen / Stomach” relationship
YEIC says, Spleen has another function, i.e. Spleen governs Blood. “脾主统血”。
Here “govern” means in control of the blood in the blood vessels, and not flow anywhere the blood likes, nor should blood flow to the nose, eyes, lungs etc. in a healthy condition.
For example, for ladies, blood from period should flow downwards, not upwards to the nose etc. Often a doctor will ask the ladies any nose bleeding problem, if the ladies present her periods as problems.
However, if the Spleen is deficient, or out of balance, then the blood will flow in an uncontrolled manner..
In Western Medicine, there is no such concept as mentioned above. As such, for bleeding problem, the solution will not be directed at treating the Spleen,
Let me pose a question, What are the functions of Blood?
Besides nourishing the body and growth, another important function is supply energy for mental and emotional activities.
Hence if there is too much mental or emotional activities, much bloods and body fluids are consumed or exhausted.
Now we see the important function of Blood. Then if the Spleen is out of balance, the bloods cannot be directed in the useful manners, but wasted.
In the case of autistic children, how do you figure out the relationship between blood and his learning capability?
Do you know how to take care of your Spleen? What diets are good for proper functioning of Spleen?
What has blood got to do with your mind, emotion and consciousness?
In Western Medicine, blood is just blood, nothing to do with your mind or consciousness. But how to explain a person with pale face, obvious blood deficiency, and that person has little spirit, energy or drive in life?
This discussion involves a few key concepts which are elaborated in the online training. “Spleen governs Blood 脾主统血”,”Mental Activities 精神”
